BRIDAL PORTRAITS
WHAT IS IT?
As a Northerner growing up in Michigan, I had never heard of or seen a bridal portrait session. Once I started my photography business in Texas, I began hearing the term and had no idea what others were talking about. I did a little research to find out that it was in fact a Southern Tradition and one that I absolutely LOVE! A bridal session involves the bride getting photographed in her wedding dress (typically 1-2 months before her wedding day). This day may also involve her hair and makeup being done by those hired to do so for her wedding day. The photos are kept secret typically until the day of the wedding, where it may then be displayed as a large print at the wedding reception.
IS A BRIDAL SESSION RIGHT FOR ME?
Whether or not you have a bridal session is completely up to you! Below you can find some reasons why a bridal session can be beneficial. Then you can decide if it’s right for you!
1. TAKE THE DRESS FOR A TEST DRIVE
A bridal session gives you the opportunity to practice standing, sitting, walking around and even twirling in your dress before the big day. This gives you the opportunity to decide if there are any alterations to the dress that need to be fixed before the wedding day.
2. TRIAL RUN FOR HAIR, MAKEUP AND FLORALS
Most brides hire their wedding day hair and makeup team for the bridal session, as well as a sample bouquet. This is great for those who may be in between the decision of having their hair up or down and not used to wearing a ton of makeup. If you decide there is something you don’t like about any of those things, you can change it before the big day!
3. POSING PRACTICE
Much like an engagement session, your bridal session gives you the opportunity to practice posing in your dress and more time spent getting to know your photographer. This helps make the wedding day feel a little less stressful.
4. LOCATION
If there is somewhere other than your venue location that you would like to have portraits done, this is the perfect time to think outside the box! This could mean photos with the Texas bluebonnets, peach blossoms, wildflowers, or your favorite animal!
5. GREAT GIFT IDEA!
A framed bridal portrait makes for a great decoration at the guest-book table. It is also a great gift for your mother and grandmother!
